Michigan native astronaut shares 'home' picture she took on spacewalk
Astronaut Christina Koch took a photo of the place she has called home for past eight months.
Koch, who has been in space for more than 200 days, posted a picture of the outside of the International Space Station this week, an image taken during a recent spacewalk.
"It's not often I get to see my house from the outside," Koch said in the caption.
Koch, a Grand Rapids native who now hails from Jacksonville, N.C., participated in a spacewalk on Oct. 6 with fellow NASA astronaut Andrew Morgan to install new lithium-ion batteries delivered aboard Japan's HTV-8 cargo craft.
Koch will stay in space for more than 300 days and set a record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman, eclipsing the record of 289 days set by former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson in 2016-17.
Another set of spacewalks will see the installation of an upgraded thermal control system on the Alpha-Magnetic Spectrometer that has been in service since May 2011.
